Prof Bas Verplanken
Internationally renowned researcher in the study of habitual behaviour, and a lecturer of social psychology at the University of Bath. His work on habit has stemmed from over 15 years of research, and been applied to a range of behaviours, from transport to consumerism, as well as his research into incentives and influencing behaviour change.
Bas’ work has included many papers on the role of habit in behaviours, including formation, attitudes, intentions and discontinuing habitualised behaviour. As well as these, Bas is an associate editor for the academic journal ‘Psychology and Health’, and is currently assisting with the JMP ‘New Movers’ project, as well as investigating the use of incentives for healthy lifestyle habits following the change from school to employment for the Medical Research Council.
